Prison Officers have a tough job, often facing difficult situations. A number of HATOs are ex-prison officers and I applaud their patience in working with difficult people on a day to day basis. www.prisonofficer.org.uk gives the Prison Officer a portal where they can discuss their work freely in the same way that national traffic does for HATOs.                      added 30 Aug 2007 09:17 pm

I have been a member of NT for nearly a year now and fully support the UK justice system. Prison Officers are the forgotten army dealing with violence, abuse, drugs and death on a regular basis. Abnormal Escort Forum

NT is keen to promote highly positive relationships with professional Abnormal Load Escorters with whom we share the network. Most HATOs and Specials are motivated by the desire to do something for another, to give something back to the community they serve. With so much in common it's a pity that we rarely get to meet operationally. HATOs share much in common with Community Support Officers and we are all regularly taunted as being "plastic police". We work hard to try to make our respective communities safer (PCSOs the towns and HATOs the roads), whilst not always having the right powers to deal with what we come across, we all find alternative solutions to help us in helping the community.
