These rules are disclosed to clarify the various responsibilities of all community members here on national TRAFFIC. They shall be adhered to by everyone to ensure that our board runs smoothly and provides a fun and productive experience for all of our community members and visitors.
- The use of QUOTE should be limited to avoid cluttering threads with useless repetition. Think whether your inclusion of a QUOTE in your post is truly needed #
so for the purposes of sheer clarity let's go through the simple requirements here once more
if you decide to hit the quote button, please make sure you are not reproducing the entire post immediately above yours into your new post
the entire post? how is that a help? we can all see the post immediately above yours, with no trouble! even specsavers is not needed on that one
so if you are hitting quote, just as some automatic reaction, because somehow you think it looks good you will be getting advice from ruben or me
WHY? because we object to the padding out of our threads with totally unnecessary duplication, that does not add to the thread's message
so what does add to the thread's message? you can use quote in all other circumstances e.g. the post you're quoting is several up in the thread from your post, or you are only quoting a few words from the post, or just 1 line to which you are specifically replying to thank you for your cooperation (which is 99% of our members!) #

Remote Avatars is 1 option to select an avatar, you could choose instead the "Gravatar" option or the best choice the "Gallery Avatar" option if you want to, (recommended)
so what do REMOTE AVATARS do? they allow you to embed the link to another website e.g https://i49. photobucket. com/albums/f25 7/adamulph/area51sign.gif
now here's the RULE, note the link to your Avatar in the example above begins https:// GOOD! Your REMOTE AVATAR complies! No action needed. Oh, it's not https? it's http? BAD! This does not comply, so just try adding an S to the http line in your UCP! Does it still work now? If so, your Avatar is CLEAR! No further action needed.
Basically all Remote Avatars in the future and in the past, MUST use https links. Ultimately those that don't will be deleted. Which is nothing to worry about, you can easily then just choose another Avatar if you wish! #

IMG bb code allowed members to insert an image into a post *IMG has now changed dramatically, you should use Attachments instead **
now here's the RULE if you try to employ IMG now, the https era forums will stop you and replace your image with a simple link e.g. [External Image] and anybody would then click that to see your chosen image
SO a suggestion > use the Attachments system instead, to bring an image on your computer into your post
You may still use IMG if you want, but you will more than likely not see an image in your post, just a 1 line LINK that says "EXTERNAL IMAGE" that would be clickable, another user clicks it, they then see your image #
Many times considerate members will help other users with a handy link such as (EXAMPLE 1) http://nationaltraffic.co.uk/about72.html this provides a link to 2016 Articles on the site
Here's another link (EXAMPLE 2) http://nomscareers.com/ (Advertising to get HMP Recruitment going, does contain useful Recruit info)
now here's the RULE please note the link above in example 2, this is an http to Noms Careers.
Well that link is not the same as http://nationaltraffic.co.uk/blahblah - it's an EXTERNAL LINK, so the link is not covered by this rule, this rule only cares about links that begin http://nationaltraffic.co.uk/something else here
so going back to Example 1 link - this is against the Rules because it means a) this breaches the Certificate scheme delivering insecure content and b) even worse really, a member who chose the https version of the site could click that and end up back on the http site! Not allowed!
So if you are going to place handy links in your post that helpfully show another member to another thread/ section/ page of this site, good well done, but ALWAYS ALWAYS please make the link https, even if you yourself don't choose to use the https version of the site. #

Your information is collected via two ways. Firstly, by browsing “national traffic” will cause the phpBB software to create a number of cookies, which are small text files that are downloaded on to your computer’s web browser temporary files. The first two cookies just contain a user identifier (hereinafter “user-id”) and an anonymous session identifier (hereinafter “session-id”), automatically assigned to you by the phpBB software. A third cookie will be created once you have browsed topics within “National Traffic” and is used to store which topics have been read, thereby improving your user experience.
We may also create cookies external to the phpBB software whilst browsing “National Traffic”, though these are outside the scope of this document which is intended to only cover the pages created by the phpBB software. The second way in which we collect your information is by what you submit to us. This can be, and is not limited to: posting as an anonymous user (hereinafter “anonymous posts”), registering on “National Traffic” (hereinafter “your account”) and posts submitted by you after registration and whilst logged in (hereinafter “your posts”).
Your account will at a bare minimum contain a uniquely identifiable name (hereinafter “your user name”), a personal password used for logging into your account (hereinafter “your password”) and a personal, valid email address (hereinafter “your email”). Any information beyond your user name, your password, and your email address required by “National Traffic” during the registration process is either mandatory or optional, at the discretion of “National Traffic”. In all cases, you have the option of what information in your account is publicly displayed. Furthermore, within your account, you have the option to opt-in or opt-out of automatically generated emails from the phpBB software.
Your password is ciphered (a one-way hash) so that it is secure. However, it is recommended that you do not reuse the same password across a number of different websites. Your password is the means of accessing your account at “National Traffic”, so please guard it carefully and under no circumstance will anyone affiliated with “National Traffic”, phpBB or another 3rd party, legitimately ask you for your password. Should you forget your password for your account, you can use the “I forgot my password” feature provided by the phpBB software. This process will ask you to submit your user name and your email, then the phpBB software will generate a new password to reclaim your account. #

HTTPS provides authentication of the website and associated web server with which you communicate, which protects against man-in-the-middle attacks. Additionally, it provides bidirectional encryption of communications between a client and server, which protects against eavesdropping and tampering with or forging the contents of the communication. In practice, this provides a reasonable guarantee that you are communicating with precisely the website that you intended to communicate with viz PCSOS-NATIONAL, as well as ensuring that the contents of communications between the user and site cannot be read or forged by any third party. HTTPS - which we have used since Feb 2017 - is now in widespread use for protecting page authenticity on all types of websites, securing accounts and keeping user communications, identity and web browsing private.
Before its initial release, phpBB3 underwent a rigorous security audit by the well-known organisation SektionEins, and most notably Stefan Esser, a highly respected PHP security consultant. During its lifetime, phpBB3 has even undergone a second security audit, and there have been no reported major vulnerabilities in the software.
All passwords in phpBB are entirely hashed before stored in the database, so you can be sure they're secure. phpBB uses a salted hash based on phpass. #

This site has had an SSL certificate since Feb 2017
HTTPS signals the browser to use an added encryption layer of SSL/TLS to protect our traffic. SSL/TLS is especially suited for HTTP, since it can provide some protection even if only one side of the communication is authenticated. This is the case with HTTP transactions over the Internet, where typically only the server is authenticated (by the client examining the server's certificate).
HTTPS creates a secure channel over an insecure network. This ensures reasonable protection from eavesdroppers and man-in-the-middle attacks, we enjoy good cipher suites and our server certificate is verified and trusted. #
