welcome to the website dedicated to our Highways Agency Traffic Officers. We talk Smart Motorways, single manning, hard shoulders, TOVs, Supervisors, Red X cameras, the lot, can you join the party on such discussions? England's motorways have seen HATOS for many years now and motorists have come to expect their assistance at the drop of a hat, which normally is the case too :slhehe: This is National Traffic JOIN US

Off to fill the patrol car, catch you soon ;)
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 1:02 pm
I've been single crewed non stop for 12 months
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 1:01 pm
Jees , no new boys joining for 18 months, blimmen heck Slab, so I guess single manning is now the norm then?
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 1:00 pm
We haven't had any newbies for 18 months, training is frozen because its awkward during the pandemic
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:59 pm
And from the sound of it that is a lot more indeed :slsad: a pay freeze is pretty fliipin bad, what is recruitment like nowadays? do you see fresh faced new lads joining?
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:58 pm
Thats a issue way above my pay grade! I leave that to people who get paid a lot more than me ;)
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:57 pm
Yeah I see that ... the most ridiculous statement of the month surely is that Highways England has 'no duty of care to motorists' and had no reason to monitor traffic for stranded vehicles according to Highways England's own barrister Nicholas Chapman
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:56 pm
We still advise to phone jobs in them so we can pinpoint their correct location
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:55 pm
Yeah but everyone has a mobile phone, SOS phones are so last generation, distressed motorists are straight on their mobile
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:54 pm
Thats if the sos phones are working!
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:53 pm
Wow it all depends on motorists phoning in?
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:53 pm
We don't have any cameras on my patch. ;)
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:52 pm
But the calls you go to emanate from Cameras surely?
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:52 pm
Thats a different department to me, we don't get involved in that side of it
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:51 pm
Ok so we have found out that nobody has responsibility for monitoring cameras along a motorway, that is a fact put forward by the Doncaster coroner investigating the latest smart motorway death
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:50 pm
We don't have them and there are no intentions of installing them
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:50 pm
Haha I love that, your Grandma was cool :slshd: bless her
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:50 pm
I was once told by my grandma growing up, if you have nothing good to say, say nowt! ;)
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:48 pm
And another way a new smart motorway is being put together as we speak in Hampshire slab, do you have a good word to say on Smart Motorways?
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:48 pm
Its probably to do with our safety imperative, we are using a number of ways to keep the motorway safe, this is one of them
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:46 pm
How can it be worth the cost to H.E , I cant see why they bought it, do you?
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:46 pm
I've seen that on our intranet, quite a few truckers have been talking about it over on trucknet
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:44 pm
That is pretty cheap cor so to motorways UK, there is a Highways England HGV cab. STAFFORDSHIRE Police has BORROWED it off Highways England? have you seen it Slabber?
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:44 pm
Its a lot quieter since Tango died but its a safe haven for a few mates to have a laugh. It only costs me £5 a month for hosting
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:43 pm
Sounds like you are back on the road, what an achievement !!
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:42 pm
So I bit the bullet, got my techie mate to download new software and we relaunched
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:42 pm
Flippin heck Slab, well my goodness, you could write a book on that :n172:
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:41 pm
Not a lot, I tried contacting his partner, but all phone numbers were dead
  • falkorWed Mar 10, 2021 12:40 pm
JEEES that is such a mountain to climb, ok what else could you do?
  • slabberWed Mar 10, 2021 12:39 pm
Yep, he had cancer and passed away, I got in touch with the hosting company but because everything was in his name, I couldn't get a copy of the database, this was nearly 3 years ago
