Re: Vehicle Contracts
In the North East area we have a mileage quota but no real sanction if we go over it as long as we have to jobs to justify doing it. In reality it means we have to park up 'strategically' for over half the shift. The downside is that I go through more smokes than I used to, on the plus side though I...

Re: supporting "3 strikes and you're out" ?
I agree in principal. Having been a police officer for over 30years (now retired) I saw a great many changes in legislation over the years. Two of the greatest obstacles placed in our way were the introduction of PACE & the CPS. It was as if the legislators were saying, everyone knows they did it, b...

Re: New Vehicles for 2011
According to a mail from management my region is getting a plain hi-lux to try out over the next week (imagine it will tour the country). The VW vans have a too long waining list so looking at Merc Vito/Ford Transit, also says they are keen on Kia sorrento (7 year warranty ). All new cars to have Ha...

Re: the union for Traffic Officers!
I left Prospect recently as I thought they were a waste of space. I am now a member of GMB and although membership in the HA is small it is growing.

Saving fuel/mileage ?
Our TM's now have us sitting round the o/s sometimes half, sometimes a whole shift only responding to immediates. They tell us that it is to save fuel. We might as well have the day off ! Our 6 on 4 off rota is a joke, many many shift changes with the required 28 days notice, we are even getting shi...

Re: Flashing lorries
I never flash LGV's in, after all they are supposed to be professional drivers (although you wouldn't think it sometimes!) My crewmate flashed one a couple of years ago and another driver thought it was for him. As a result we nearly got wiped out by an agric. tractor doing a U turn on the APTR

Re: 6 on 4 offshift pattern
I'm DD and have been since day one. I was asked if I would consider changing if the 6/4 came in and I said yes because I was told I would remain 6 on 3 off. I have heard now though that everyone would go 6 on 4 off so what's the point in changing, there are still enough 24/7 for it to work. I did ni...

6 on 4 offshift pattern
Searched for this topic but couldn't find it so here goes ........ There is a lot of talk in the NE region about introducing a 6 on 4 off shift pattern in January 2010. This would be achieved by extending the working day slightly and may encompass a training (?) day each month. In reality it would p...

Re: Highways Agency handed out bottled water to motorists
Ot our o/s a few months ago a TO had a bottle of water cos he was thirsty and stuck on a job. There was nearly a Spanish Inquisition as to why he'd had it!. Seems we can't get a definitive answer as to who it is for. We chucked away nearly 100 bottles because they were out of date.

Agreed about the TM debate, I didn't intend going there again. It just seems that it's getting so 'picky' after all we are all adults.

Re: Rear Red Flashing Lights
Have I missed something here. According to 2(d) we can't use them for RRB's? The Road Traffic Act 1988 Order Under Section 44 The secretary of State for Transport in exercise of his powers under section 44 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 hereby authorises the use on the roads of motor vehicles owned an...

Headmaster says !
Due to staffing issues etc, there is sometimes only one TM on duty between two outstations in our area. If we don't have one on at our place we have to wait around for a phone call at the end of our shift to tell us we can go home! Come 26mins past the hour we are gone phone call or not. We are trus...

Re: new eppaulettes
A pair of my eppaulettes went back with the 'extra' jackets that the TM's collected last year. Reported them as such and someone will decide whether I can have 3 pairs or not. As an earlier post said, as they are personalise what are they going to do with them, pick out the stitched numbers and re-d...

Got a different breed where I am. They do one of 16 things. (and then some) 16. They know everything and yet ask me to sign their Tacho when stuck in a queue when if they DID know everything theyd know we dont have powers to do that. And many many more but my fingers hurts now. Hi Chocolate boy, Yo...

Re: Proposed Night Moves of Abnormal Loads by Highways Agency
I can see the merits of moving ab loads at night due to lighter traffic flows but in my area there are quite long stretches of unlit 2 lane m/ways and APTR (without h/s). There are often those mobile home things moving up and down the road and there is not a lot of room left when they pass an LGV. I...
