Re: supporting "3 strikes and you're out" ?
YES - Agree with principle but also agree with ZzoL (ie the severity of the offence). Something that appears to be forgotten is that prison; as well as being a punishment (arguable with the cushiness of UK prisons), is also to protect the public by removing the offender from society. Repeated offend...

Re: Hello all
.........are slow moving loads better travelling in "rush hour" traffic if they fit in one lane as traffic is generally crawling, or do you slide them along early doors daylight hours weekends ? On the face of it your logic is fine - not all Abloads are the same and their most critical di...

Re: Are abnormal load escorts up to the job?
Agree, agree, agree . The difference between Escorters is becoming polarised from where I’m sitting – those who do the job pro-actively/professionally with road safety as their watchword albeit walking a fine line between tacitly agreed best practice and the vagaries of variable/regional and litera...

Re: Abnormal Loads
I've not come across any legislation on minimum speeds for anything on a Motorway - any 'offences' seem to use oblique legislation such as 'causing an obstruction'TM1 wrote:Wasn't there a minimum speed limit of 30 mph back in the dark ages?

Re: Abnormal Loads
So far most TOs polled are suggesting that 40mph should be the minimum speed for an un-escorted Abnormal Load on a motorway - interestingly, 40mph is currently the MAXIMUM speed for an AIL where it is >4.3m wide or >50T but <150T (and would generally be escorted). Loads falling just under these widt...

Re: HATO escorting Abnormal Loads
From various discussions with HA TRL etc (on the topic of lighting) in the past, I understood that rear facing white (and front facing red) is a complete non-starter for DfT. Purple was discussed briefly apparently but I understood it was considered to be too near to blue.... Notwithstanding purple ...

Re: HATO escorting Abnormal Loads
Apart from the bit that says WIDE LOAD on the front of the escort vehicle!!! :slsix: By when they are usually too close anyway.... especially with front escorting/closing speeds. And anyway.......perhaps the load is not 'wide' but long.... or just heavy (slow)... or a combination. And 'wide load' d...
