Pseudo vehicles

Do police in your regions take any notice of look-a-like emergency vehicles or escort/recovery vehicles using reds, in some cases on the front.

I've experienced recovery vehicles with front reds, and wig wag headlights come to a scene where there were 2 traffic Inspectors, and they just joked about it.

Also recovery assessment vehicles like this, from D&G cars, which apparently is legal !!!

For a while we had to report any Recovery or Haulage companies using Rear reds. Latest I heard is that our Police now dont care, they have them for safety reasons. In my previous region, one recovery agent had flashing intermitant Headlights and some had two tone horns. It did help them get to incidents.

Is that picture above not considered 'impersonating a Police Officer'?

Got me thinking about that recent Security Company thread.

I've experienced recovery vehicles with front reds,
reds at the front are totally illegal

there are no exemptions whatever
  • Use of ukemergency.co.uk images requires compliance with their T&C
  • You must not use the image from their server (it must be copied, then reuploaded so it is being 'called' from a TP server)
  • a link to the main page of ukemergency.co.uk must prominently be displayed
  • a thank you to ukemergency.co.uk must be prominently shown
  • this applies for every single image used e.g. two images used - two links, two thank yous

Just to add, we were reporting rear reds, didn't realise anyone was even trying it on with fronts. Naughty, as illegal as rear white whether it be broken lenses or spots left on.

Think for us the most worrying was a liveried volvo pulling up live lane behind an rtc..

The driver got out in hi-vis and brought out a "police stop" sign out, by the time he'd messed about a HA rolling Block appeared on scene the vehicle was moved to safety but as soon as the T/O went to the volvo it left at warp 9....

Wannabees are far more dangerous.....

There are a few wannabes out there. It is quite correct that if the blue portion doesn't reflect, any tom dick or harry can battenburg their car up.

Jock - I know which recovery company you refer to. Certain vehicles of theirs have been spotted with covert blues which the drivers claim are legal because they are called out by the police and hence using for "police purposes" - what a LOB!

Haha, got to give em points for trying Wanderer!

On the whole, they were good lads as well, very proffesional and good kit. Duty garage role going to their heads perhaps?

Be interesting to see if the HA enforce a stricter code when Rota Recovery contract is set up.

Somehow, I think not.

Only TO's will get pulled up as usual.

We are currently reporting 'unauthorised use of rear reds' by recovery companies, but if the Police won't act and the HA can't do anything, what's the point?

Hopefully if there is sufficient evidence to show misuse of reds something will be done, without the evidence nothing will be done. Be patient it wont happen over night. :!:
