NOTE; this is a poll for the members of the site, it doesn't matter whether you are a T.O or not, you are expressing your opinion as a member of the site

Lack of communication generally within the organisation causes uncertainty and affects morale, it also encourages mis-information and that leads to fears of all kinds.

I'm not a TO, but as you've stated that doesn't matter, I'd say it's very difficult to pick a single option. They're all worries.

I'll think about it some more. :slch:

I picked;
MORALE - lack of communication is rife.

but seriously considered voting for;
PROMOTION - too few chances to move up.

We desperately need more TOs promoted up through the ranks.
OMs & a ROM that have zero on-road experience is :slr: stupid. How they can possibly expect TOs to follow their instructions when they don't have the first clue what's going on out on-road is beyond me......................

All future TO promotion will be from within the TO service....the last TM pool recruitment was the last open to outsiders

Me too.. Result!

Although, not that we wont have any more external people (that wouldn't be right either), just that there will be an internal process of some kind, followed by a separate external one if needs be. I gather it's all just a theory at the moment though.

REDUNDANCIES - too much uncertainty as to future of T.Os
As someone that hopes to be a TO in the near future (I'm on the waiting list) I don't want to find myself in the position of being 'last in, first out'. I'll be leaving a nice job that I've been doing for 10 years to become a TO. I'm hoping it'll be a good move and open new doors, etc. But not to the dole queue!

I went for lack of communication, however the one for our future was close second.
life is not about how many breaths you take. its about the moments that take your breath.

It's my opinion that the TOS is rife with incompetence.

The lack of effective communication is a real concern which leads to rumour and counter rumour, bitching and back biting.

The possible increase in the TO powers is always hotly debated, and I think it will be a brave government that makes changes which will cost the HA serious amounts of money to pay for further and detailed training in law...

Managers NEED TO GET OUT OF THE OFFICE AND DO TO WORK, if you're stuck in an office, you're losing skills and when they do finally get out they're a liability...:(

Communication, communication, communication...accurate on time and correct at ALL times must the key. NOT via email, as many TOs do not have time to access the portal and read all the drivel that comes across, I.E. why do I need to know about the stationary for the whole region when all I really need was one watchman form....

TMs - TALK to your crews, advised them of new procedures and why it may have changed, give full details of all "management" meetings to that rumour can not start...COMMUNICATE DAMN IT.
The real leader has no need to lead--
he is content to point the way.

The thing is, all you say isn't limited to the TOS, or even the HA - it's Civil Service wide.

I agree with HotelEcho.

I have never worked in a place where communication has been so bad, it sometimes makes a fab job sole destroying. Rumour control seems to run the place, but this could so easily be stopped by proper comms.

TO's have a way of finding out the truth, when we have been told that management know nothing about the questions we are asking. Do they not understand that a vast majority of TO's have been managers for a lot of years and have looked after more staff than 4 or 5 people who are grown up adults....whats the bobby moore people.

This is a government service, I think the people we have in place are spot on (99%), but it worries me that if junior management keep on the way they are unchallenged, people are going to go. Its has happened I dare say and I know people are thinking about it, but, why should they.

I'm not crazy, however, I'm going that way :slsa:
