So, they're not taking Bristol on again. And we're back to washing at home (for which we were under threat of disciplinary)

Wonder how much that cost the tax payer????? :strokeschin:

The whole Bristol thing has been a farce from start to finish!

The one thing they never seemed to do was actually clean them......but they always came back with repairs done!!!

And what happened to the "You can't clean them at home as it will ruin them"????

I have used the Bristol cleaning service from time to time for my jackets to ensure they are in good repair etc but have never been happy with the wash they did so have continued to wash it at home. They are showing some signs of wear now and I expect my bomber jacket will require replacement in the new year will have to see how we get on with that.

Send it away enough and you will eventually get a new jacket.. Well, one that's got new panels, new sleeves and patches.

When I worked for HATO I used the philosophy of "well it's their system, so I'll do as I'm told, and if i the jacket isn't good enough then they can deal with it", clearly Bristol Uniforms were not good enough either by the posts here. It would seem that another "brilliant" idea from the civil service goes up in smoke!!

Wash the jackets yourself, I used to do this as well, using approved Gortex tech wash looked after the jackets well and always got them clean!
I used to wonder why all my jackets came back with "repairs done" when clearly no repair had been carried out...money making scheme comes to mind! Not that I'm cynical!!!!

So what happens now, we wash the garment at home and it all goes wrong. Does this mean we still face the threat of disciplinary action.

Had to add to my last post, Another classic example of how good our management is at de-motivating the workforce.
The new year just begins, we sit back and reflect on the old year, how many of us said " chin up, a new year just starting, I'm sure it cant be as bad as the last. We never know, we might get some direction this year, what with the olympics".
Well after reading the coat washing fieasco it don't bode too well.
One wonders what they will do next.

What's management got to do with coats?

UK Gov PLC said all eggs in one basket (in lots of different topics), we were approaching a review point with our contract, we knew they were taking the whizz, we tossed them.

You get a tax rebate (aleit not a lot) for washing of kit, if it's contaminated with something nasty then it gets destroyed.

Or have i over simplified this?

Its the word disciplinary which rears its ugly head, almost a daily event in my area.
How can anyone encourage you to wash your own coat when only two weeks ago you faced a disciplinary action for exactly the same thing.

If the coat washing is so important why havn't the management found a new supplier, I'm sure somewhere in this country is somebody who can wash the garment to a suitable standard.

Blame Cameron PLC. His house has dictated large central contracts to save money. It's nothing to do with "management". Just because you are at the bottom of the tree doesn't mean everyone else is management. Some are colleagues who don't wear uniform and have the low paid job of trying to sort it out.

And quite a lot are in uniform, paid scandalous wages for what they do and do their best to get themseleves noticed by right royaly f*cking things up for the majority and have no shame when they do.
