Trousers

Post by Bob Parr » Sun Feb 17, 2008 12:40 pm

Not wishing to start a rant, but all three pairs of the combat trousers have had seams come apart, is it me or is the stitching not up to standard, the material and design is fantastic, butthe seams seem to be letting them down :nak:

Yes Bob, I think they used the same person who stiched the velcro onto the Goretex jackets to do the seams on the trousers. Not funny at 0300hrs in freezing conditions and a gale blowing.

AFAIK, Burlington's had an iffy batch sent out where the material wasn't up to scratch.

The replacements should hopefully be from a correct batch of trews :thu:

I'm still wearing the old trousers for about 90% of duty days - they maybe getting a little shiny and rough looking but the trousers press get them great each time (almost!).

I wait for fun times when I use the combat trousers all the time.

Thanks Bob. I've had the same problem. Everyone said it was because I was a fat barsteward. Now thanks to your post, Jezza has told me it's not true. 8)

Serious question, who supplies your uniform and do you find the quality is crap like the prison service issue kit?

The kit is all suplied by a company called Burlingtons at seemingly double the cost of what similar kit costs the Police etc (According to a source I was talking to a while ago).

Original issue was completely useless, but with the newer goretex hi-vis, trousers and boots, things are improving vastly. I still think the purchase method isn't the best use of public money and that we can find far more cost efficient and reliably supliers, but I've no power to change it so c'est la vie.

Well thank your lucky stars that Alexandra don't supply you, their kit is 'rather poor' shall we say!

Bob

The batch that were issued in March are still c**p and literally falling apart at the seams and the velcro on the pockets coming off. Mentioned it to a TM but was more or less told to stop complaining! :x

As mentioned in another thread previous to this we are lucky we don't use Alexander but Burlington are not much better and Some one in a little cosy office somewhere still needs to look at all uniforms for Depts such as HA & Prison etc we work hard, get dirty and need something that matches the role, not White shirts/blouses &Ties.
It needs someone who gives a damn about our everyday welfare to take it on board, both roles do good work in their own enviroment and the uniform is shocking.

Have gone through 6 pairs of combats, seam problems, side seams, crotch seam (very draffty! ), broken zip, sewn in crease coming undone.
Latest pair - side seams (again) went after 5 outings :!:

V. Poor quality tailoring :?

You must be unlucky mate. Hardly any problems where we are. Are you ordering the correct size?

(for clarity  )

Ditto. I've had pairs sent with buttons loose in the packaging direct from Burlingtons, velcro that's gone after a few shifts, and my goretex failed completely after being washed in accordance with the instructions. Yet still got told by them it hadn't been washed properly when returned. Quality checking really needs to be improved so we aren't having to order things two or three times in the hope of getting a decent item.
